AutoCAD Tech Tip

Have you ever wondered how to enter in additional text on a dimension in AutoCAD but not affect the actual intelligent measurement that the dimension is posting??   Many clients have asked me, so here’s how you do it.

Below is an example of the resulting text included with a dimension.  To get the ‘TYP’ to post up under the dimension text, you select the dimension, then navigate to the properties palette.  In Properties, scroll down to the bottom of the Text category and look for the Text Override line item.  In that line, enter the following switch:

<>\P\XTYP

The <> tells AutoCAD to maintain the correct measurement display.
The \P (caps only) tells AutoCAD to place the following text below the dimension text.
The \X (caps only) tells AutoCAD to place the following text below the dimension line.
